Beyonce promotes hedonism, says Pas
2009/09/24
By Teresa Yong
KUALA LUMPUR: Pas Youth is not against entertainment, but it objects to American superstar Beyonce’s concert here on Oct 25, as she is known for her sexy attire and seductive dancing, said the wing’s vice-chief. You’d better be……!
Ahmad Sabki said yesterday they were unhappy with the trend of bringing in Western groups to Malaysia.
“We know that these groups are not suitable for our Malaysian culture. Their appearance and attire are against our Eastern identity.” Says who…?? Just because some group of people thinks it’s not suitable doesn’t gives you the right to take away what people ought to find them suitable to their identity. What do they mean by being AGAINST Eastern identity? What’s our identity? Just because we are born as Asians doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to adopt other person’s culture? And what’s with the Eastern & Western thing when people are talking about being globalised. Are we supposed to stay in our little coup for another 52 years?
He said even if Beyonce were to dress in a jubah (Muslim attire), she was still known for her “sexy image”. Oh gosh, I wonder what she’d look like if she does and I bet nobody’s going to be interested to go for her concert if she does (since the concern is on how she dresses)

“We are against Western entertainment that promotes hedonism. We do not want our youths to be misled.
As far as I could understand on the theory of Hedonism (which is limited), I don’t believe in banning a concert would make anything any better. Reason being: Hedonism is widely promoted. Whether you like it or you don’t, hints of hedonism are being spread everywhere EVERY MOMENT. It’s on your TV dramas, it’s in your daily Ads (on any channels). Pardon my ignorance if I may say, if your concern is on such a matter, shouldn’t it start from the simplest of things that has much more major influences on them which they are exposed to daily and why pick on one artist who’s just trying wanting to have a concert here?
If one is being misled, it’s a lot on the matter of how strong one’s faith is. I can’t blame my brother because I fall into sin, can I?
“We have in the past objected to Indonesian dangdut artiste Inul Daratista performing in Malaysia as she is also well known for her sexy gyrations.” Just because you’ve done that before doesn’t mean you should keep doing it in regardless of what’s right and wrong anymore.
He regretted that the media had portrayed Pas as a conservative party that seeks to ban entertainment. Well, you gotta try HARDER to phrase your sentences properly next time.
Beyonce is coming to Malaysia for the first time as part of her “Beyonce I Am …” world tour.
She was scheduled to perform in Malaysia in 2007 but gave Kuala Lumpur a miss and performed in Jakarta instead.
The Information, Communication and Culture Ministry could not be reached for comment. Concert organiser Marctensia marketing head Michael Chan said they would issue a press statement today.
Note: I am no fan of Beyonce. And I’m serious.
