Does What I Think Really Matter?

Whitney Houston has made a comeback with her new album titled ‘I Look to You’.

Songs I like in this album:

I Look to You - The song brings back the gospel roots in her. I sensed a very genuine performance of the song. I supposed anyone who’d  gone through her life (as publicised) like hers would definitely be able to relate to this song very well.

Call You Tonight, Like I Never Left (feat Akon) & Worth It - I’d consider this in the light Rn’B genre. Cruising and very relaxing tunes to listen to.

Comments on this Album:

It’s been a pretty hyped up album and much anticipation were called for before the launch. It was named the biggest comeback ever after Michael Jackson. Whitney’s publicly made struggles were no stranger to the world. The comeback was partly doubtful partly excited.

I for one was rather excited as I’d consider myself listening to her music in my growing up years. (Note: Only in the middle of her career, not since the beginning and I AIN’t THAT OLD:P)

Let me be honest her. If you’d expect the album to sound in the likes of her previous albums and songs like I Wanna Dance with somebody, Saving all my love for you, I will always love you, It’s not right but it’s OK or I Learned from the Best - you’d end up dissapointed.

The media had the biggest doubt before the launch - can her voice still make it after all the drug abuse? Their worries are not without it’s credibility. WE all know how drugs can mess up not just our lives, but our physical condition. For that, after listening to this album, I’m beginning to realise that this worry is in fact…..turning into a fact.

There’s no doubt that Whitney has still got that big voice but the vocal range has tremendously been very constrained (I’d never thought I’d use that statement to describe a legend like her). All the songs didn’t have that much dynamics like what she used to do in her previous album. If by all means that her vocals were still as good and that it wasn’t featured in these songs in her album, then I’d have to say that this album did no justice to Whitney’s vocal ability. The album, can generally be called - ‘playing safe’.

You can hardly find her ‘flirting’ with her vocal prowess in this album. Has she really lost it? Or was it  that these songs weren’t written properly for her? I for one have no answer on that. - After all, I’m just any ordinary listener. Our voice evolve and change in time. Aging can also be one of the factors of voice degradation therefore, the blame can’t just be laid on the drug abuse either.

But above all THAT, I’d have to say this: A person who has find their way back to God, after all the struggles, stood back up and marching forward, deserves MUCH more than just another standing ovation. I think God will be glad too.

Diclaimer: Content written is based on person opinion and not relevant to be considered as critics. Please don’t mock me. :P

Have a good day people! :)
